860+ St George's Pupils Return to School on Monday

More than 860 pupils returned to St George's International School Luxembourg on Monday 5 September 2022 for their first day of the 2022/23 academic year.

The pupils, of more than 60 nationalities, are starting the school year under far fewer restrictions than in the years since the COVID-19 pandemic began. St George's has retained several health measures, however, such as hand-sanitising stations, thermal temperature checks on entry and classroom CO2 detectors.

Improvement works were carried out during the summer, including the repainting of classrooms and common areas and reallocation of several classrooms to accommodate the changing needs of year groups and departments. In addition, preparation work began in readiness for construction to start on the school's new gymnasium later in the term and the bus parking area was upgraded.

"This is the first year since the pandemic that we have been able to start the year in a regular pattern without restrictions. We are delighted to welcome our students back and are very keen to begin the year", St George's Principal Dr Christian Barkei commented. "I am entering my tenth year as Principal and it has been wonderful to look back and see the progress the school has made over the last 30 years. I am looking forward to working with our new Chairman of the Board of Governors, Stefan Ziegenhagen, and the board members to further develop the excellent provision at St George's".
