The United Nations on 11 Dec 2014 adopted a resolution, supported by 170 member countries accepting India's request to declare 21 June as International Yoga Day.
The First International Yoga Day, 21 June 2015, falls on Sunday and is expected to be celebrated with huge enthusiasm the World over including in Luxembourg, at D’Coque – Kirchberg ( besides the lake).
To most users yoga stands for physical well-being with postures which stretch muscles, stimulate nervous system and reduce stress. To advanced users, yoga also means achieving higher consciousness and a fulfilling life through meditation. Yoga should not be misunderstood as a religious ritual. It does not require comprising one's religious belief or customs.
21 June is a day of summer solstice, when the consciousness and energy level is found to be highest among humanity. Yoga helps harness such energy for a better health and mental well-being.
Fédération Nationale des Ecoles Luxembourgeoises de Yoga (FNELY), together with Yoga schools, is organising the first International Yoga Day with support from Indian and Luxembourg governments, and the Mayor of the City of Luxembourg.
There are no formal registration however please indicate on the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/YogaDayLuxembourg?fref=nf) if you intend to join. No registration charges.
No prior knowledge of yoga is needed. All attendees are expected to bring their yoga mat or towel and drinking water to practice on the green- grass lawn. Dress Code is easy-wear white for all
Several parallel Yoga workshop will be held guided by experienced Yoga Teachers, in English, French and Luxembourgish. The highlight of the event shall be the workshop on 108 Sun Salutation (´Yogathon`) being organised by Ariane Iranpour, Director, International Association for Human Values, Luxembourg.
Chairs will be provided, for those who cannot sit on the floor.
A food stand will be available at the close by AMPHITHEATRE from 08:00 to 13:30. serving several Indian varieties like Samosa, Dhokla, Idli, Pongal, Uppama, etc. for a price. In line with Yoga practice, the food prepared for that day is without onion and garlic for the well-being of all. The benefit after cost will equally be shared for charity to Nepal through AEI & IAL, and to Indian Stand of International Bazar – Luxembourg.
