On Thursday 2 July 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, visited De Leederwon ASBL in Betzdorf to learn more about the association's activities and to exchange views with its representatives on its mission and the future development of the project.

Founded in 2008 and recognised as being of public benefit, De Leederwon works in the field of horse-assisted activities and social support. It aims to provide everyone with an inclusive, calming and stimulating environment that promotes human well-being.

The association has expanded its range of services over the years to include educational and psychosocial interventions with horses, horse-drawn carriage rides, as well as training on approaching and understanding horses.

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, De Leederwon's work reflects a holistic approach to sustainable development by promoting the interaction between human well-being, social inclusion and respect for the environment. Its activities also demonstrate the value of local initiatives that contribute to social cohesion and strengthen community resilience.

During the visit, Minister Wilmes praised the association's commitment, stating: "The initiative led by De Leederwon shows how innovative and people-centred approaches can contribute both to people's well-being and to a more inclusive society. This type of project fully reflects the values of sustainable development, which places people and quality of life at the heart of its priorities."
