The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Tuesday 8 September 2026, a driver fled a police check in Esch-Belval, prompting a search operation involving a police helicopter.
According to the police, at around 17:40 on Tuesday a police patrol in Esch-Belval noticed a vehicle due to its conspicuous driving. The driver was subsequently stopped for a check on Rue Porte des Sciences. While officers were checking the vehicle and personal documents, the man suddenly started the engine and fled.
A search operation involving several police patrols and a helicopter was immediately launched and a short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned in a car park in Esch-Alzette.
According to initial information, the driver had fled on foot into a nearby park but a subsequent search for him was unsuccessful.
On the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the vehicle was seized. Further investigations are ongoing, and a report was drawn up.
