On the occasion of Blue November, the annual campaign aiming to prevent and raise awareness about prostate cancer, Fondation Cancer has shared information about prostate and testicular cancer.
Prostate cancer, common in men, can be silent or manifest through often banal urinary problems. Difficulty urinating, urgent urges, nocturnal urination, presence of blood in one’s urine or semen can be warning signals that should prompt vigilance. Fondation Cancer advised not to hesitate to consult a doctor if one experienced those symptoms, had any doubts, or had a family history of cancer.
Fondation Cancer has a free support group in hybrid format that allows men with prostate cancer to come together to talk with other people affected. The group meets every first Wednesday of the month from 18:00 to 19:00 and meetings are held in English, French, German and/or Luxembourgish both over Zoom and at the Fondation Cancer’s headquarters. Participation is free, but it is necessary to register in advance with the Fondation Cancer.
Considered rare, testicular cancer remains the most common among young men. This form of cancer has a reassuring prognosis. Knowledge of one’s body and a regular practice of self-examination can help with early detection. Factors such as cryptorchidism (undescended testicle) or family history may increase the risk. Fondation Cancer advised men to talk to their doctor if they notice any abnormalities or have doubts.
Fondation Cancer accept donations which support research, inform the public and help men affected by these cancers. One can donate at: https://don.cancer.lu/b/mon-don.
