"Riicht Eraus", the Luxembourg Red Cross' consultation service for perpetrators of domestic violence, has set up a hotline to help stop perpetrators from hurting their families during this period of confinement.

In the context of confinement and stress, such as that linked to the current coronavirus crisis, the risk of conflict and domestic violence increases. Consequently, Riicht Eraus has set up a hotline to provide its support from a distance.

Laurence Bouquet, psychologist and manager of Riicht Eraus, explained: "No one is immune to domestic violence". Indeed, during periods of confinement, special attention should be paid to signs of escalating tensions and intra-family conflicts.

To ensure that families residing in Luxembourg can continue to live in respect and solidarity, Riicht Eraus has invited anyone who feels the pressure build at home to reach out before they turn to aggression. As part of this service, four psychologists who specialise in working with perpetrators of violence will offer psychological support and listen to any potential perpetrators of domestic violence.

People currently receiving support from Riicht Eraus teams can continue to benefit from consultations, which are now only held via telephone. During these consultations, perpetrators of violence are advised on the non-violent management of risk situations, as well as the recognition of their limits and those of others. Consultations are available in English, French, Portuguese, Luxembourgish and German.

Laurence Bouquet concluded: "In these times of fear and uncertainty, don't hurt your family ... call us before we get to [that stage]".

The hotline is available via tel.: 2755-5800 from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00. Riicht Eraus is also available to advise perpetrators of domestic violence in a discreet way via email: riichteraus@croix-rouge.lu to discreetly advise perpetrators of domestic violence.
