On Monday 22 June 2026, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that 19,674 resident jobseekers were registered as available for work at the end of May 2026, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly to 6.2%.
The number of resident jobseekers stood at 19,674 as of 31 May 2026, an increase of 1,205 people (+6.5%) compared with the same period last year. As in previous months, highly qualified jobseekers were particularly affected, with an increase of 15.1% year-on-year. A year-on-year increase was observed across all age groups, although this increase was lower than in previous months, particularly among young jobseekers (+2.9%).
The largest increases in demand were recorded in secretarial and administrative support, information technology and banking professions.
New registrations of resident jobseekers fell by 1.4% year-on-year, with 2,239 people registering in May 2026 compared to 2,271 in May 2025.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits fell by 6.8% over one year to 9,842. Those with professional redeployment status receiving either waiting or professional allowances stood at 1,551, up 1.3% year-on-year. A total of 4,627 residents benefited from an employment support measure (+3.8%).
For non-resident jobseekers, ADEM recorded 4,144 registered individuals at the end of May 2026, up 19.4% year-on-year. Of these, 58.7% held external professional redeployment status, making them eligible for financial assistance from ADEM under the same conditions as residents. This group increased by 10.5% over one year.
The second category consists of non-residents who register voluntarily with ADEM without receiving financial support. This group accounted for 1,711 people at the end of May 2026 and represents 41.3% of all non-resident jobseekers. This category recorded a strong annual increase of 34.8%.
Among non-residents with external professional redeployment status, 1,018 received full unemployment benefits as of 31 May 2026, a decrease of 9.7% year-on-year. In addition, 1,827 received waiting or professional allowances, an increase of 8.0% over one year.
In May 2026, employers reported 3,049 job vacancies to ADEM, up 7.6% compared to May 2025. According to ADEM, this increase was largely due to significant seasonal recruitment by a company in the manufacturing sector. The number of available vacancies at the end of the month stood at 6,928, a decrease of 3.8% year-on-year. The strongest growth in demand was recorded in industrial cleaning and maintenance, design and engineering, warehousing and logistics, and paramedical care.
