The Grand Ducal Police has issued additional information regarding the death of a 75 year old man in Rue de Strasbourg in Luxembourg-Ville on Saturday 20 June 2026.

According to the police, officers first received a report at 12:31 of a person sleeping in direct sunlight. A local police patrol attended the scene and found the man, who was already known to the police as a homeless person. Officers attempted to speak with him to assess his condition and determined that he showed no signs of a medical emergency. As the man did not require assistance, was not disturbing anyone and was not blocking access to any entrance, officers did not request an ambulance.

At 18:03, the same caller contacted the police again to report that the man was no longer responding. The police control centre immediately alerted the emergency services, which dispatched an ambulance to the scene together with several police patrols.

The police said reports claiming that the “same patrol returned to the scene later that day” were incorrect. The force also denied reports that it has guidelines preventing potential witnesses from speaking to the media.

Emergency responders confirmed the man's death at the scene. According to the police, initial findings suggest that no third party was involved in the man's death.

The Technical Police of the Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the circumstances of the death, while the public prosecutor's office has ordered an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
