On Thursday 27 August 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes travelled to the Belgian province of Luxembourg for a field visit dedicated to rail transport and cross-border mobility.
According to Luxembourg’s Ministry for Mobility and Public Works, the visit took place jointly with her Belgian counterpart, Jean-Luc Crucke, Federal Minister for Mobility, Climate and Environmental Transition.
The ministry said that the visit aims to review progress made since their meeting in Libramont in 2025, which focused on the challenges of cross-border mobility, as well as the investments still needed to improve travel for the thousands of workers who cross the border between Belgium and Luxembourg every day.
Throughout the day, the ministers visited several key sites in Marbehan, Habay, Viville and Arlon, travelling mainly by train. Discussions, reportedly, focused in particular on improving rail services, station accessibility, intermodality and the infrastructure needed to make rail travel more attractive.
