On Wednesday 18 February, the National Youth Service (Service national de la jeunesse – SNJ) held the tenth edition of the information fair “Deng Zukunft – Däi Wee” (your future – your path) at Belval Plaza Shopping Center in Esch-sur-Alzette, welcoming more than 1,300 visitors.
According to the SNJ, the fair featured 50 exhibitors offering information on professions, training courses, studies and voluntary service. Young people could explore a wide range of opportunities to help them plan their next step. In addition to the information stands, participants could take part in five workshops covering fashion design, hairdressing, beauty, photography and CV and video CV advice, providing practical tips for their next job interview.
Bruno Cavaleiro, Alderman of the City of Esch-sur-Alzette, visited the fair on the morning of 18 February. He commented: “Faced with young people confronting diverse realities - dropping out, unemployment, questioning their future - it is essential to strengthen cooperation between all local stakeholders in order to support young people effectively towards working life.”
Joy, a student who attended the event with her parents, appreciated being able to learn about many possibilities in one place. She said: “I am currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in law and I am thinking about what comes next, whether to continue my studies, enter professional life or do a year of voluntary service. This event is very practical because it brings together many options in one place. I therefore came with my parents to get information and to be able to make a decision.”
Along with the SNJ, the event was organised by the Youth Information and Meeting Centre of Esch-sur-Alzette (CRIJE), in partnership with the City of Esch-sur-Alzette.
The SNJ added that exhibitors welcomed the diversity of young people who visited their stands and the precise questions asked.
