Luc Frieden, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister;
On Monday 22 June 2026, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden delivered his traditional National Day address, highlighting unity and social cohesion.
Opening his address, Luc Frieden said that although everyone has "our own personal story", each person also contributes to "the story of our country". He described National Day as an opportunity to reflect on the values that unite people, including "peace, freedom and democracy".
Minister Frieden acknowledged growing concerns about international conflicts, economic and technological developments and the future of Luxembourg and Europe. However, he said such moments also remind people "what truly matters", namely the people "we can rely on", the community "to which we belong" and "the spirit of togetherness, and the respect for different opinions".
Referring to the government's recent discussions with the social partners, Luc Frieden said the government had worked to find common ground through dialogue, mutual respect and a willingness to listen, describing this approach as the "Luxembourg way".
He also stressed that Luxembourg's future is closely linked to Europe, stating: "Because the Luxembourg way is built on living together, it is also deeply European."
Looking ahead, Minister Frieden said: "The future is not predetermined. It is ours to shape. We write our own future, as humans, as a country and as Europeans."
He also paid tribute to Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie, saying they had "helped strengthen the cohesion of our country" and had represented Luxembourg abroad "with grace and dignity" since the beginning of the Grand Duke's reign.
He ended the address with the traditional salute: "Long live the Grand Duke! Long live the Grand Ducal family! Long live Luxembourg! Long live Europe!"
