On Friday 19 August 2022, the long-awaited and the largest funfair in the Greater Region, the Schueberfouer, was inaugurated at around 17:00 by the Mayor of Luxembourg City (Ville de Luxembourg), Lydie Polfer, in the presence of Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel and Minister for Tourism, Lex Delles, amongst other dignitaries, after a two-year break due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Founded back in 1340 by John the Blind, this popular annual event has transformed the Glacis field in Luxembourg City into a gigantic funfair with 223 attractions and stands this year, including the Daemonium, the world’s largest travelling ghost train.

Traditionally, sheep are marched though the fair ("Hämmelsmarsch") along with performing musicians to announce the beginning of the fair. This year, musicians from Harmonie Municipale Luxembourg and Limpertsberg brass band performed. The offical mascot of the Schueberfouer, the sheep "Lämmy", will be on offer in the form of a soft toy as well as various other souvenirs and merchandise being available for purchase, while the mascot will be at the fairground handing out tickets for a grand draw organised by the "Festivités de la Schueberfouer" (Schueberfouer festivities) working group. Winners will be drawn on Monday 5 September 2022 with a range of prizes, including trips to theme parks.

The official inauguration of the 680th Schueberfouer, which included a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, drew a large crowd with visitors from all walks of life.

Visitors will be able to enjoy different street foods, various attractions, rides and carousels for 20 days, from Friday 19 August to Wednesday 7 September 2022, from 12:00 to 01:00, with food establishments having the possibility of opening their doors from 11:00 daily.

On Wednesday 24 August 2022, there will be reduced price family day on the entire fairgrounds.

Also, on the last day of the Schueberfouer, 7 September, from 12:00 until 20:00, prices will be reduced to half for the gaming establishments, sideshows and rides across the entire fairground. A fireworks display will take place on the Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte at 22:00 and the Schueberfouer will officially close at 01:00 on 8 August 2022.
