The Initiativ Liewensufank, which provides support for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting, has announced that it will be holding two upcoming activities – a film viewing evening of “Entre leurs mains” (In Their Hands in English) today, 19 May from 19:30 at the Itzig premises and a post-birth Pilates course to be held at the Belvaux premises on Thursday afternoons.

The film screening session will be organised as part of the International Week for Respecting Childbirth 2015, and will be in French with English subtitles.

It will touch on the act of giving birth and a woman’s rights concerning her body in modern society, as well as the human element of childbirth, at a time when technology is omnipresent in all aspects of life. Four midwives will help the viewer discover a different perspective on childbirth and the space given to the profession in today’s day and age.

Midwives who assist home births will discuss a new look at the current practices of childbirth and encourage and empower parents based on a non-intervention policy. Moreover, the film will look at the situation in France, where the standard of high maternity medicalization is high, and midwives are accused of a lack of due care, and penalised for their professional care.

The organisation is also introducing a new post-birth Pilates course, for mothers to begin six weeks after giving birth.
