Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has confirmed that, on Monday 11 September 2023, a new International School of Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette (EIDE) building was inaugurated in Differdange; the new campus will welcome primary and preschool classes.
Claude Meisch, Luxembourg's Minister of Education, Children and Youth, along with Guy Altmeisch, the Mayor of Differdange, and Gérard Zens and Elisabeth Da Silva, the Director and Deputy Director of EIDE, were all in attendance at the inauguration of the new campus.
The expansion of the EIDE campus marked the commencement of the 2023-2024 school year with the inauguration of a dedicated building for preschool and primary school classes, as well as the educational and reception services of the public international school. EIDE now accommodates approximately 30 young pupils in its nursery school, which opened last week.
Internally, the campus comprises three preschool classrooms capable of hosting 20 pupils each, sixteen primary classrooms with a capacity of 25 pupils each, four differentiation rooms, two open learning spaces, seven specialised rooms, a sports hall with a psychomotor skills room, areas designated for education and reception services, including school catering and a library. Outside, there is a nature playground (Naturspillplaz) that allows children to play freely.
Construction on this project began in 2020 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of the year, including the exterior enhancements.
Established in 2016, EIDE is the first of six public European schools in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, following the curriculum, promotion criteria and schedules of the European School system. It is an inclusive institution with no registration fees, providing European preschool, primary and secondary education in French, English and German sections, culminating in the European baccalaureate qualification.
