The natur&ëmwelt English Section is participating in a Winter bird count 2016: Do your bit towards monitoring Luxembourg’s common and/or garden birds – and you might win a prize...
This is the 11th edition of Luxembourg’s winter bird count, and the first time this annual event has reached out to English-speaking members and followers of Luxembourg’s wild bird and nature conservation NGO natur&ëmwelt.
natur&ëmwelt has a very active Field Ornithology Group that does sterling work monitoring, recording and censusing the more unusual species (and to which everyone can contribute – in English, if you prefer – via www.ornitho.lu). The common species, though, tend to get overlooked, although it is their populations that can tell us so much about what is happening out there in the bird world.
The idea is that everyone – individually or as a family – sets aside one hour some time on Saturday 30 January or Sunday 31 January and keeps a note of how many birds of each species you see at a selected location – which may be in your garden or at a nearby feeding station. It is a serious but fun activity, and everyone can help towards building up a picture of Luxembourg’s bird world. And there are prizes to be won too....
The entry/reporting form is available online at www.naturemwelt.lu, from 30 January. Entries can be sent in (electronically or by post) until 12 February.
