97th Braderie Set to Offer City Shoppers Bargains & Free Parking

On Wednesday 2 September 2026, Union commerciale de la ville de Luxembourg (UCVL) held a press conference at Monoprix on Place Guillaume II (Knuedler) in Luxembourg-Ville ahead of the 97th edition of the Grande Braderie of Luxembourg City.

The press conference was led by Mireille Rahmé, President of the Luxembourg City Business Association; Anne Darin, Director of UCVL; Mayor of Luxembourg City Lydie Polfer; and Alderman of Luxembourg City Patrick Goldschmidt.

The annual shopping event in the capital city is described by the UCVL as “emblematic” for local commerce, bringing together local retailers, with shops and stalls offering a range of products and special offers throughout the city centre. 

Mireille Rahmé noted that this year the Braderie will take place a week later than normal, enabling those returning later from holidays to take advantage of the “pre-Braderie” offers available on the weekend preceding the main event.

Over the course of this weekend, Braderie offers will be available on both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. The flea market will also be held on Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 on Avenue de la Gare, providing an additional opportunity for shoppers to find additional bargains.

The main Braderie event will take place on Monday 7 September from 09:00 to 19:00 and will see more than 190 retailers bring life to the streets of the city centre and the Gare district by displaying their products outdoors. 

The streets in these areas will be closed to traffic as much as possible to create a large pedestrian zone, where visitors can search for bargains, enjoy the various food stalls and participate in a multitude of other activities in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Mireille Rahmé noted that a number of prizes donated by local businesses (worth up to a total of €6,000) will be available to win on the day, including a prize draw offering a bicycle donated by Arnold Kontz Cycles. 

Place de Paris in Luxembourg-Gare will host activities from 10:00 to 18:00, with non-profit associationLudoland Asbl offering a variety of construction games, role-playing games, wooden games and oversized games for children. Lego workshops will also be offered by Bricks 4 Kidz, while the non-profit organisation I Love Graffiti will invite the public to participate in a graffiti workshop. 

In Place Guillaume II (Knuedler), visitors can inspect vehicles from the Luxembourg Army and discover stands from local leisure and service professionals.

Patrick Goldschmidt detailed that a number of changes will be made regarding road access and encouraged those intending to attend to utilise the free public transport and Park & Ride facilities in the city.

Additionally, the “Place de l’Europe” car park (Luxembourg-Kirchberg) and “Fort Wedell” car park (Luxembourg-Gare) will be free of charge on Monday 7 September. The “Fort Wedell” car park (Luxembourg-Gare) will also offer four hours of free parking on Saturday 5 September and two hours of free parking on Sunday 6 September, with the “Fort Neipperg” car park (Luxembourg-Gare) offering four hours of free parking on Saturday 5 September and two hours of free parking on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 September.

Public transport and traffic arrangements for the Braderie

The following park-and-ride facilities – free of charge for 24 hours – are served by regular municipal bus services and, where applicable, the tram:

• P+R Bouillon

• Line 10: every 15–20 minutes towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

• Line 17: every 10 minutes towards the Upper Town district

• Line 22: every 10 minutes towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

P+R Howald, Lux-Sud A+B

• Tram line T1: every 8 minutes

• Line 5: every 15–20 minutes via Bonnevoie towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

• Line 29: every 10–15 minutes towards the Gare district

P+R Stade de Luxembourg

• Tram line T1: every 8 minutes

• Line 5: every 15–20 minutes via Bonnevoie towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

• Line 18: every 10 minutes towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

• Line 20: every 20 minutes towards the Gare district

P+R Kockelscheuer

• Line 18: every 10 minutes towards the Gare and Upper Town districts

• Line 20: every 20 minutes towards the Gare district

The city’s buses will operate according to an adapted network. The following changes will apply to the AVL network between 04:00 and 21:30:

• Lines 2 and 9: towards Bonnevoie, the Wallis Quai 4 stop will be removed and replaced by a temporary Avranches Quai 2 stop, located at no. 16 Boulevard d’Avranches, at the junction with Rue du Fort Wallis. Towards the city centre, the Wallis Quai 3 stop will be removed and replaced by a temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches.

• Lines 3, 5 and 33: towards Bonnevoie, the Wallis Quai 2 stop will be moved approximately 20 metres, in front of no. 10 Rue Bender. Towards the city centre, the Wallis Quai 1 stop will be removed and replaced by a temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches.

• Lines 4, 10, 14 and 22: towards Hollerich, buses will be diverted via the Rocade de Bonnevoie. The Al Avenue Quai 2 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the following stops: temporary Avranches Quai 2 stop, located at no. 16 Boulevard d’Avranches, at the junction with Rue du Fort Wallis; Gare Rocade Quai 2 stop; and temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 2 stop. Towards the city centre, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Al Avenue Quai 1 stops will be removed and replaced by the temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 1 stop, Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop and temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches.

• Lines 13 and 18: towards Gasperich, buses will be diverted via the Rocade de Bonnevoie. The Al Avenue Quai 2 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the following stops: temporary Avranches Quai 2 stop, located at no. 16 Boulevard d’Avranches, at the junction with Rue du Fort Wallis; Gare Rocade Quai 2 stop; and temporary Wenceslas 1er Quai 2 stop, located on Rue Wenceslas 1er. Towards the city centre, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Al Avenue Quai 1 stops will be removed and replaced by the temporary Wenceslas 1er Quai 1 stop, located on Rue Wenceslas 1er; Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop; and temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches.

• Line 7: towards Bonnevoie, the Wallis Quai 1, Gare Centrale Quai 2 and Léon XIII Quai 3 stops will be removed and replaced by the Gare Rocade Quai 2, Rotondes Quai 2 and Léon XIII Quai 2 stops. Towards Kirchberg, the Léon XIII Quai 4, Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Wallis Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the Léon XIII Quai 1, Rotondes Quai 1 and Gare Rocade Quai 1 stops.

• Line 19: in the Gare district, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Al Avenue Quai 1 stops will be removed and replaced by the temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 1 stop, Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop and temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches. In the city centre, the Cathédrale, Gruef, Kasinosgaass and Badanstalt Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the Hamilius Quai 1 stop.

• Line 20: towards Kockelscheuer, Parc Luxite, the Gare Centrale Quai 1, Wallis Quai 4 and Gare Rocade Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 1 stop. Towards Merl, the Gare Rocade Quai 1, Wallis Quai 3 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 2 stop.

• Line 23: towards Gasperich, buses will be diverted via the Rocade de Bonnevoie. The Al Avenue Quai 2 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the following stops: temporary Avranches Quai 2 stop, Gare Rocade Quai 2 stop and temporary Wenceslas 1er Quai 2 stop. Towards Dommeldange, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Al Avenue Quai 1 stops will be removed and replaced by the following stops: temporary Wenceslas 1er Quai 1 stop, Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop and temporary Avranches Quai 1 stop, located opposite no. 6 Boulevard d’Avranches.

• Line 27: towards Hamm, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Wallis Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 1 stop and Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop. Towards Hollerich, the Wallis Quai 1 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the Gare Rocade Quai 2 stop and temporary Gare Centrale / Rue de Hollerich Quai 2 stop.

• Line 29: towards Hesperange, Cité Um Schlass, the Wallis Quai 1 and Gare Centrale Quai 2 stops will be removed and replaced by the Gare Rocade Quai 2 stop. Towards the airport and Senningerberg, the Gare Centrale Quai 1 and Al Avenue Quai 1 stops will be removed and replaced by the Gare Rocade Quai 1 stop.

The VdL noted that schedule adjustments may be possible on all lines affected by the diversions. Timetables and real-time departures can be viewed via the cityapp-VDL or on bus.vdl.lu.

Traffic

On the occasion of the Grande Braderie, Rue Notre-Dame will be closed to traffic from Rue de l’Ancien Athénée.

Towards the Gare, Avenue de la Liberté will be closed to motorised and bicycle traffic on the section between Rue Heine and Rue de Hollerich (diversions either via Avenue Marie-Thérèse / Route d’Esch or via Boulevard de la Pétrusse).
