The De Rooy team won the truck class of the Dakar 2016 on Saturday, covering approximately 9000 km in 13 days across Argentinian and Bolivian terrain.
Powerstar Iveco truck #501 claimed victory in Rosario after beating more than 50 trucks in the competition. Fitted with Goodyear ORD off-the-road trucks tyres, the truck was crewed by Dutch driver Gerard De Roy, Spanish co-driver Moises Torrallardona and Polish mechanic Darek Rodewald. In addition, De Rooy team support truck, driven by Ton Van Genugten and also equipped with high-speed Goodyear ORD, finished the race 5th in the overall standings. The win represented De Rooy's second in the truck class at Dakar after victory in 2012.
"The conditions on the Dakar are without doubt as tough as you can get," commented Gerard De Rooy. "They comprise the worst of everything; including sand, rocks and mud; so tyres are one of the most important factors. The Goodyear ORD 375/90R22.5 off-the-road truck tyres have been fantastic and a key element in us winning the event."
Overall, the De Rooy team had entered three trucks fitted with Goodyear ORD tyres for Dakar 2016, also known as 'Odyssey'. The Luxembourg-produced tyres were selected after extensive joint testing with engineers from the Goodyear Innovation Center Luxembourg.
