A lane along Rue de Hesperange previously reserved for buses has now been opened to cyclists, the Ville de Luxembourg reported Monday.
Signs have been put up delineating the section between Rue de Bonnevoie and Route de Thionville as open to cyclists, and form part of an extension of the existing cycle lane on Route de Thionville and on the Jean-Pierre Büchler bridge. This allows for a direct and safe connection between the Bonnevoie district and the Gare.
This newly-enforced measure has been implemented as a way of optimising the existing supply, as well as the quality and safety, of available routes for cyclists and is intended as a continuation of the first bike concept which allowed this mode of transport to return to the urban environment by means of main bicycle routes, the vel'oh! self-service bike network, and City cycling infrastructure including parking spaces and specific signage.
