The Ville de Luxembourg today reported that construction projects in the Gare district in the City centre will be underway from Monday 24 August 2015, causing adaptations to the road network until the end of 2017.
The first phase of construction work will take place from 24 August until October 2015 on Rue de Hollerich. Changes will cause traffic congestion and motorists are therefore advised to avoid this road if they are able to and if their destination is not located in the station area.
In addition, the section of Rue d'Alsace between Rue Wenceslas 1er and Rue de Hollerich will be reserved as a bus lane running in the opposite direction to its current direction. Access to Rue d'Alsace from Place de la Gare will therefore not be available during this phase of work. The pedestrian route will be changed, and a secure path will be shown by means of appropriate signage.
City bus lines will undergo the following changes:
Lines 2 and 23: From Place de la Gare, buses 2 and 23 will circulate via the Jean-Pierre Büchler bridge, the roundabout and Rue Christophe Glück as well as Rue Benjamin Franklin. Buses will no longer stop at 'Alsace', 'Deportation', 'Millewee' and 'Richard Wagner' and instead the 'Clemenceau' stop on Rue Benjamin Franklin of the CN3 line will serve as a substitute stop.
Line 18: Departing from Place de la Gare, the 18 bus will pass through Rue de Hollerich, Rue de la Fonderie and Rue de l'Aciérie towards Route d'Esch. The previous stops 'Alsace', 'Lascombes' and 'Hollerich Gare' will be replace by the 'Fonderie' and 'Assurances Sociales' stops, as well as a temporary stop 'Ethe' along Route d'Esch, near Rue Maurice Barrès.
All bus lines running from Gasperich towards the Gare district will maintain their regular routes. More information can be found at www.vdl.lu
