From Friday 11 until Sunday 13 September 2015, the 2015 Steam Festival will be taking place at Fond-de-Gras, celebrating '70 Years of Liberation'.
The Festival will offer 4 steam train 1900 locomotives, 2 steam locomotives SCM Belgium Maldegem, a military train containing US equipment from 1945, live music by Glenn Miller, an exhibition of former agricultural equipment, steam tractors and motors, and snacks and drinks as refreshments.
Visitors will get the opportunity to take a journey back in time on board a train 1900. The steam trains will leave every 40 minutes between 10:00 and 18:00 from a platform at Pétange station. The price of the train ride and admission to the Steam Festival costs €20 for adults and €10 for children aged between 5 and 11.
In addition, on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September 2015, special screenings of the film 'Train de Vie' will also be available in its original versions of French and German.
The film, directed by Radu Mihaileanu, is a 1998 comedy, centred around the lives of inhabitants of a Jewish village in 1941. Humour is the only means of salvation, and the villagers set about organising a fake train with which to escape the Germans. Nazi uniforms are made, perfect German is learned, false documents made and the train, car by car, assembled. The villagers transform into mechanics, German officers and soldiers and one night, the train is gone, leaving in its wake an empty village.
The film stars Lionel Abelanski, Clément Harari, Agathe de la Fontaine, Michel Müller, Johan Leysen and Gad Elmaleh and won a plethora of awards and prizes at the Sundance Film Festival, Mostra di Venezia, Miami Film Festival, Nastri d'Argento and Mostra de São Paulo, among others.
To get to the screening, a steam train will leave Pétange at 19:30, and audience members will be taken back by regular train at 23:00. Tickets cost €20 and can be reserved by e-mail at train1900@pt.lu, with the provision of the desired viewing day, the number of adults, the number of children and their respective ages and an e-mail address. Participants will then be sent an e-mail with bank details in order to carry out the payment.
