The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the Luxembourg Government is expecting a delivery of new vaccines against COVID-19 next week.

The government is awaiting the delivery of suitable vaccines from the pharmaceutical groups Pfizer and Moderna during the week starting Monday 5 September 2022. The planned delivery encompasses 43,200 doses of Pfizer's "Comirnaty Original / Omicron BA.1" vaccine and 42,600 doses of Moderna's "Spikevax Bivalent Original / Omicron BA.1" vaccine. These so-called "bivalent" vaccines are supposed to offer protection against the original Sars-CoV-2 virus and against the Omicron variant.

Medical practices and pharmacists participating in the vaccination campaign will be able to start ordering the vaccine from Luxembourg's Health Directorate from 5 September. The new vaccines will be available from 12 September in the "Impfbus" (vaccination bus) and from 13 September in the Victor Hugo vaccination centre in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg. The deployment of these vaccines in the first medical practices and pharmacies will begin at the end of next week after the arrival of these new vaccines in the Grand Duchy.

The Luxembourg Government, based on the recommendation of the Superior Council of Infectious Diseases (Conseil supérieur des maladies infectieuses - CSMI), is currently inviting all people over the age of 60 as well as anyone at risk of a serious form of the disease (regardless of age) to get a booster vaccination.

These adapted vaccines will be administered only as a booster dose after a primary vaccination and also as a second booster dose for the aforementioned individuals. The Pfizer vaccine can be administered from the age of twelve and that of Moderna from the age of 30.

In order to best prepare the population for possible waves of infection for the coming autumn and winter, the Luxembourg Government will reopen the Victor Hugo vaccination centre from Tuesday 13 September 2022. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 07:00 to 19:00 and Saturday from 07:00 to 13:00. The centre will be exceptionally closed on Saturday 17 September 2022 in the context of the Tour de Luxembourg road cycling race. People who have received an invitation to get their booster vaccination and who wish to get vaccinated in the vaccination centre are invited to make an appointment online at www.covidvaccination.lu or via the "Helpline Santé": 247-65533.

In addition to the vaccination centre, people can get vaccinated in medical practices or pharmacies participating in the vaccination campaign, as well as in the Impfbus. Further information is available at: www.impfen.lu.
