Luxembourgish co-production "Les hirondelles de Kaboul" ("The Swallows of Kabul") has received two awards at the 12th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival in south-western France.

This year's Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, which took place from 20 to 25 August 2019, put the spotlight on Luxembourgish cinema. The festival showcased six feature films, a documentary and two short films, all Luxembourgish (co-)productions. In addition, the festival paid a special tribute to the career of the late Luxembourgish filmmaker Pol Cruchten.

On this occasion, Zabou Breitman and Éléa Gobbé-Mévellec's animated feature film "Les hirondelles de Kaboul", co-produced in Luxembourg by Stephan Roelands from Mélusine Productions, took home two prizes: the prestigious "Valois de diamant" for best film (main award), awarded by a jury under the presidency of British actress Jacqueline Bisset, and the "Valois de la musique", awarded to Alexis Rault for the film's soundtrack.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Media Xavier Bettel was present at the opening of the festival, whilst their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess attended the "Luxembourg Day" and the closing ceremony.
