On Friday 3 March 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning confirmed that the consumption of both natural gas and electricity dropped in February as a result of efforts to reduce energy consumption as the Grand Duchy continues to achieve its objectives.
The ministry published a new report on efforts to reduce the consumption of natural gas and electricity in Luxembourg, the main results of which were as follows:
1. Natural gas consumption
In February 2023, the reduction in natural gas consumption corresponded to approximately 22.4% compared to the reference period of the years 2017 to 2022, therefore still well beyond the reduction target of the Member States of the EU 15% of natural gas demand. Cumulatively, the reduction in natural gas consumption across the EU reached 27.2%.
2. Electricity consumption
The reduction in electricity consumption has also continued to fall since June 2022. In February 2023, the fall was 8.94% compared to the reference period of the years 2017 to 2022.
