Film Fund Luxembourg has announced that three Luxembourg co-productions have been selected for the 82nd Venice International Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia), which will take place from Wednesday 27 August to Saturday 6 September 2025.
The feature film Grand Ciel, directed by Akihiro Hata and co-produced with France via Les Films Fauves (Gilles Chanial), has been selected for the official Orizzonti section. According to Film Fund Luxembourg, this competitive section highlights new trends in world cinema and awards several prestigious prizes. Luxembourg contributed both artistically and technically to the production, with actors Sophie Mousel and Hervé Sogne featured in the cast. A significant portion of the filming also took place at Filmland studios in Kehlen, involving many local technicians.
Two immersive works co-produced in Luxembourg have been selected for the Venice Immersive competition, which is dedicated to virtual reality and immersive projects.
The Great Escape, directed by Joren Vandenbroucke, is a co-production between a_BAHN Luxembourg (Marion Guth, François Le Gall) and Belgium. The VR experience was developed in close collaboration with the Velvet Flare studio in Oberkorn, particularly its animation and development teams.
A Long Goodbye, a VR project by Kate Voet and Victor Maes, is a co-production between Tarantula Luxembourg (Donato Rotunno), Belgium and the Netherlands. The 2D/3D animation was also completed by Velvet Flare under the artistic direction of Damiano Picci.
According to Film Fund Luxembourg, the participation of these three co-productions in two distinct categories of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival once again demonstrates the dynamism and international reach of Luxembourgish cinema.
