On Wednesday 23 July 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture reported that Cabo Verde’s Minister of Culture, Augusto Jorge de Albuquerque Veiga, had arrived in the Grand Duchy for an exchange focused on strengthening bilateral cultural relations and was welcomed by Minister Eric Thill.
The visit followed the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cabo Verde’s independence and the recent official visit to Praia by Luxembourg’s Hereditary Grand Duke, the Prime Minister and the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
Cabo Verde and Luxembourg signed a cooperation agreement in 1998 covering education, culture and science. Both ministers emphasised cultural cooperation as an important and complementary aspect of the long-standing partnership between the two countries across various fields, noted the Ministry. They also highlighted the relevance of strengthening cultural ties in light of the significant Cabo Verdean community in Luxembourg and its contribution to the country’s cultural and artistic scene.
Eric Thill and Augusto Jorge de Albuquerque Veiga therefore discussed several concrete avenues for collaboration, which will form part of a broader structuring of bilateral cultural cooperation under the Ministry of Culture’s international cultural policy. The ministers agreed to explore these topics further in the coming months, with the aim of reaching swift consolidation and effective implementation, in alignment with the wider cooperation partnership between Cabo Verde and Luxembourg.
