Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Carole Dieschbourg, and Minister of Energy, Claude Turmes, presented today during a press conference a support scheme for electric charging points at home as well as the Clever Fueren and Clever Lueden campaigns, aimed at promoting electromobility.

The government is thus preparing at all levels for its transition to electric mobility. The whole range of assistance for renovation, promotion of solar energy and sustainable mobility forms part of the “Neistart Lëtzebuerg” recovery plan. These meet the objectives of the integrated energy and climate plan for the period 2021-2030, while supporting the economy and the craft industry by creating jobs.

Environment Minister Carole Dieschbourg explained: "The aid programme strengthens the craft sector and the economy in general and constitutes an 'agenda of solutions' facilitating the transition to climate neutrality for citizens".

In its energy and climate plan, Luxembourg pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to the reference year 2005. Since the transport sector is responsible for around two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions in Luxembourg, it is essential to focus on this sector to reduce emissions. The government will thus continue its efforts to decarbonise transportation and promote sustainable mobility in all areas, with enhanced promotion of public transport, soft mobility and electromobility.

This will be achieved through high investments in the public transport and soft mobility sector, up to 100% increase in premiums for zero-emission vehicles and the introduction of a subsidy programme for electric charging points at home. Concerning the latter, in addition to setting up a network of Chargy and Fast Chargy public charging points, the government will set up a support scheme for the installation of private charging points powered by green energy.

Energy Minister Claude Turmes stated: “Luxembourg is therefore preparing at all levels for its transition to electric mobility: an effective mix between investments in the very dense public charging network, aid for the purchase of an electric vehicle and premiums for home charging will facilitate the transition from our national fleet of cars to an emission-free fleet”.

At the financial level, eligible costs cover the charging point, technical equipment and manpower required for the installation, respectively the technical adaptation of a preexisting installation. The amount of financial assistance is based on a detailed analysis of the market and varies depending on the number of locations and the intelligence of the charging facility.

Requests for financial assistance must be submitted no later than twelve months after the last invoice issued in connection with the investment. More information can be found on the myenergy website (www.clever-primes.lu) or via tel.: at 8002-1190.
