The municipality of Mamer has announced that its recent drive-in cinema concept was a great success, with over 4,300 tickets having been sold.

In order to offer the public some entertainment after two months of confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mamer, in cooperation with cinema operator Caramba, transformed the car park of the Bauhaus DIY store in Capellen into a a drive-in cinema from 14 May until 5 July 2020. Blockbusters, children's films and classics were projected on a giant LED screen.

After 54 screenings, the time has come to take stock: a total of 4,332 tickets were purchased via the online system (with one ticket being valid for one car), representing an average of 80 vehicles per projection. The car park's maximum capacity was 120 cars. Since most drivers were accompanied by passengers, the total number of spectators is expected to be higher than the number of tickets sold.

In addition to the film screenings, the municipality scheduled four days of drive-in concerts. Like during the films, sound was transmitted from an FM transmitter. Between 20 and 23 June 2020, no fewer than 20 artists from across Luxembourg (and even from Mallorca) took the stage installed at the bottom of the giant screen. 244 tickets were sold in total, sometimes with five people per car.

Food trucks were present throughout the eight weeks that the Mamer drive-in cinema lasted and spectators could order food and drink and pay in advance via a smartphone app, programmed by Kirepo, a company based in Mamer. A total of 2,535 orders were placed, meaning that almost one in two visitors (cars) placed an order via the app.
