ARA City Radio (ACR) and listener Jean-Claude Nurenberg have decided to team up to raise funds for LUkraine asbl, a local non-profit organisation representing the Ukrainian community in Luxembourg, to buy humanitarian aid.

The result is a tombola that combines charity donations with the chance to win a piece of genuine Prague street art.

The idea is simple: Jean-Claude Nurenberg has purchased and is donating an authenticated print of a piece of Prague street art created by Kazakhstani graffiti artist Chemis. Individuals are asked to send donations of €25 to LUkraine asbl and then send an email to pledge@ara.lu with proof that they have done this. Each person who donates will be issued with a raffle number for every €25 they spend.

At the end of April 2022, Jean-Claude will join ACR Breakfast Show host Tom Clarke in the studio to pull a number and determine who receives the print.

Lisa McLean, Managing Director of ARA City Radio, stated: "We are happy to help in any way we can. Obviously people can pledge more if they wish and they will be issued a number for every €25 they donate".

The piece called "Child of Ukraine" reflects the vulnerability of Ukrainian children and echoes the cry from Ukrainian authorities to the West to close the skies over Ukraine.

Background

Known affectionately across the Radio ARA shows and to listeners simply as JC, Jean-Claude Nurenberg is known as a star listener. Always on hand with suggestions when features are run on the Breakfast show or when a stand-in presenter needs a track suggestion, he is there. Jean-Claude approached ARA at the beginning of March 2022, deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine and wondering what individuals could do to raise funds for humanitarian aid.

At the same time, Chemis, a Kazakhstani graffiti artist based in Prague, was having similar thoughts, Chemis travels the world creating street art that is a reflection or commentary on society. All proceeds for the prints of Child of Prague (including the one purchased by Jean-Claude) that he sold went towards humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
