The Sainte-Cécile choir from Mersch recently presented a cheque for €2,500 to Stëmm vun der Strooss, a local non-profit organisation which supports people experiencing homelessness and vulnerable members of society.
The non-profit reported that the choir, under the direction of Liette Pouelles Juncker for the past eighteen years, presented the cheque to Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, to benefit the Schweesdrëps therapeutic workshop in Sanem.
Alexandra Oxacelay presented the non-profit’s activities and said that the money raised would be used to finance washing machines, software to manage the 4,000 sport uniforms that are washed at the centre each week, as well as water softener. “This expenditure is necessary to improve the working conditions of the 30 people employed as part of a professional reintegration programme and to professionalise the Schweesdrëps workshop in the industrial zone um Woeller in Sanem,” she explained.
The Schweesdrëps therapeutic workshop is currently subsidised by the European Social Fund, which supports the expansion of activities by co-financing 40% of the salary of a graduate educator for two years. The financial support is also supplemented by co-financing (60%) from Œuvre Nationale.
Stëmm vun der Strooss thanked all members of the Sainte-Cécile choir of Mersch for the fundraising.
