On Monday, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Etienne Schneider, in his role as Minister for Internal Security, together with the Secretary of State for Internal Security, Francine Closener, will meet with representatives of Syvicol (union of Luxembourg towns and municipalities) and the mayors of various municipalities, to discussed the planned reorganisation of police stations across the Grand Duchy.
The meeting is part of the review of the police force currently being undertaken, i.e. its organisation and functioning, and will address the planned reduction of the number of police stations across Luxembourg.
A number of internal thematic working groups were asked to make concrete proposals based on the key recommendations emerging from the audit report previously undertaken. With the goal of improving the quality of service to citizens and to strengthen police presence, the "territorial reorganisation" working group has proposed a new concept of police stations across the country. This approach proposes a review the number of stations across the country in order to use the available resources more effectively.
The meeting will discuss the proposal and has committed not to close any police station without prior consultation and agreement of municipal officials.
