The Grand Ducal Police have reported the seizure of narcotics following two traffic checks carried out on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

At around 19:00, a driver was stopped during a traffic check on Marbuergerstroos in Marnach. According to the police, officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, a small amount of hashish was found and seized.

Later that evening, a police patrol checked another vehicle with two occupants in the Esch-sur-Alzette area. Officers again detected a strong smell of cannabis. A roadside drug test carried out on the driver returned a positive result. A small amount of narcotics was also found in the vehicle during the check.

While the police operation was ongoing, the driver suddenly got back into the vehicle and fled. Two officers had to jump aside to avoid being hit by the vehicle. An immediate search was initially unsuccessful.

During further investigations, officers found a bag containing around 25 grams of hashish and a larger amount of cash near the location of the check. The driver was found on foot a short time later, while the passenger was also located at a later stage. The vehicle used earlier was also found and seized. A provisional driving ban was imposed on the driver.

According to the police, units from the traffic police, the dog unit and a police helicopter were deployed during the operation. Further investigations were initiated.
