On Tuesday 1 September 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, together with AgriMeteo, MeteoLux and the Water Management Administration, published its Summer 2026 meteorological report.

According to the report, Summer 2026 was marked by exceptionally high temperatures and a pronounced rainfall deficit across Luxembourg.

Temperatures and precipitation

At Findel, the average temperature reached 20.6 °C, making Summer 2026 the hottest summer since 1947, ahead of the previous record of 20.5 °C recorded in 2003. New records were also recorded in Asselborn (18.9 °C) and Remich (21.8 °C).

At Findel, June 2026 recorded an average temperature of 19.9 °C, making it the hottest June since records began. The same was observed at several ASTA stations.

On 26 and 27 June, several records were broken, including a new absolute maximum temperature of 41.4 °C recorded in Remich by ASTA.

In July, temperatures remained above normal, with anomalies of up to +2.8 °C, while precipitation showed a significant deficit of 76% to 97%.

In August, temperatures remained above normal, with anomalies ranging from +1.4 °C to +2.9 °C. Despite showers, the month was generally drier than normal, with precipitation anomalies of up to -24.8 mm.

Hydrological situation

The rainfall deficit resulted in historically low water levels and low-flow discharges, particularly in small watercourses and in the north of the country.

Despite rainfall at the end of August, discharges remained very low and below the average low-flow discharge across a large proportion of watercourses.

According to the report, the situation was comparable to those recorded in 2022 and 1976.
