On Tuesday 1 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that two driving bans were issued overnight following incidents of drink-driving which occurred in Esch-sur-Alzette and Windhof.
According to the police, during the early hours of Tuesday, they were notified of a driver who had driven away in his vehicle despite having previously consumed alcohol. A police patrol was able to stop and check the man shortly afterwards on Rue Louis Pasteur in Esch-sur-Alzette. As he was showing clear signs of alcohol consumption, a breathalyser test was carried out which returned a positive result. A driving ban was issued and the vehicle’s keys were seized.
Then, at approximately 02.30, a police patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a very slow speed at a roundabout on Rue des Trois Cantons in Windhof, which then repeatedly left the carriageway when exiting the roundabout. The officers immediately stopped the vehicle. The driver showed clear signs of alcohol consumption and a breathalyser test returned a positive result. Subsequently, the driver became increasingly uncooperative. Due to his heavily intoxicated state and his behaviour, he was placed in a detention cell to sober up following a medical examination. A provisional driving ban was imposed on him and his vehicle was seized.
