Tragedy struck the Gare district of Luxembourg City on Friday afternoon after a mother and her toddler were found lying on a pavement along Rue du Fort Wallis.
The toddler was initially discovered at around 15:20, and a short time later the body of a woman was also reported to have been found in the same site. Both individuals had sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Both the toddler and the mother have now been reported to have died following the incident
An initial police report stated that the reason behind the traumatic chain of events was unclear and an investigation was launched. The Grand Ducal Police have since come to the conclusion that the mother threw her child out of the window of her apartment, before jumping herself.
