On Friday evening the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (AMCHAM) held a 20th anniversary celebration at MONDORF Domaine Thermal at Mondorf-les-Bains.
On a sweltering evening in temperatures above 30C, the 215 guests enjoyed a cocktail on the terrace before taking their seats inside for the dinner. Paul Schonenberg, AMCHAM Chairman, addressed the attendees with a short speech, emphasising the want of AMCHAM for everyone to enjoy the party. He briefly recounted the origins of AMCHAM in Luxembourg two decades ago, with the organisation now the largest private business chamber in the Grand Duchy. It puts on around 40 events annually, publishes a magazine 4 times a year and also publishes a book, "Working in Luxembourg". It is run by a small team supported by many volunteers in its 11 committees.
Between courses the musical entertainment delighted the guests with many venturing up onto the dance floor, and David Goldrake performing a great mind-reading illusion that had everyone spell-bound.
The delicious meal consisted of prawn and salmon courses, with a celebratory cake wheeled in for a ceremonial cutting. It was at this moment that Marios Paras delivered a short tribute to Paul Schonenberg for his leadership and dogged determination to get AMCHAM to where it is today, with a tie and plaque being presented.
