Luxtram has confirmed that Luxembourg’s first tram car for the new tramway system was delivered on 8 February and will be assembled at a new storage and maintenance centre where initial testing will begin.
In the meantime, the work for creating the tram network continues and new public names have been selected for the tram stations across the Kirchberg plateau, the Place de l’Etoile and Limpertsberg.
Selected for their ease of recall, as well as their historical, cultural and geographical context, the company has said that Kirchberg will be served by Pafendall - Rout Bréck, Philharmonie - Mudam, Europaparlament / Parlement européen, Coque, Universitéit, Nationalbibliothík / Bibliothèque nationale, Alphonse Weicker and Luxexpo stations, while Place de l’Etoile and Limpertsberg will be served by Stäreplaz / Etoile, Faïencerie and Theater stations.
According to Luxtram, the first section of the new network should be operating by the end of the year.
