On Friday 19 February 2016, Minister for Higher Education and Research, Marc Hansen, awarded four grants from the Fondation Auguste van Werveke-Hanno.
The Fondation was established by Grand Ducal decree on 29 March 2002 under testament of the late Anita van Werveke, in memory of her father Auguste van Werveke-Hanno and his art teacher at the École d'artisans de l'État, now known as the Lycée technique des arts et métiers.
The grants are awarded to young students in Luxembourg pursuing higher education in architecture or the fine arts, for example free arts; advertising/multimedia; interior design/decoration and design. Selection is based on records, with the grants awarded based on academic merit, progress made in their studies and personal projects.
Forty students have benefitted from the fellowship since 2003. This year, grants of €5,000 were awarded to Lara Gengler, Masters student in Fine Arts - Design and Interior Design; Aïcha Abbadi, Fine Arts Student - Design Mode; Nora Sahr, Architecture-Urban Planning student; and Thierry Neu, Masters student in architecture.
Minister Hansen lauded the winners for their dedication, initiative and creativity in their academic career, which he stated would, along with their good academic results, would be determinants in their success in the workplace.
