On Thursday 10 December 2015, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport unveiled a new Ryanair route providing direct flights from the German airport to Cornwall Airport Newquay.

From April 2016, this new flight path will cater to demand from individuals wishing to explore this South West region of England which has served as the backdrop for numerous Rosamunde Pilcher novels and as a popular tourist destination for many Europeans. From 3 April 2016, Ryanair will be flying passengers to and from Cornwall twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, with tickets already available to book online.

In light of the new route being introduced, chief marketing officer of Cornwall Airport Newquay, Amy Smith, and Claire Thayers of the 'Visit Cornwall' Tourism Authority, were at Hunsrück-Airport to explore the region, as well as further opportunities for the route.

"We had interesting discussions with tourism experts, tour operators and travel agents," remarked Amy Smith. "We have met with organisers of travel to Cornwall, but also focused on the question of what possibilities there are to promote the Hunsrück as a destination region for travellers from England."

Ms. Smith described Cornwall as "already very popular" among German tourists, as has been determined with the already-established air connection between the English county and the German city of Düsseldorf.

"German tourists know our region from the novels of Rosamunde Pilcher and love our gardens and parks and the great scenery along the cliffs," commented Claire Thayers. The Trier tour operator EuroFlug has integrated the new route into its 2016 offer and included a tour of the Cornish gardens cited by Ms. Thayers.

"Our next goal is to promote the Hunsrück in Cornwall as an interesting tourist destination," concluded Amy Smith. "Those of us that live with the beach and the sea every day are interested in looking for a holiday that offers something different. The Hunsrück provides a lovely alternative for us."

This new route could also provide an interesting excursion for Luxembourg residents, with the Grand Duchy lying only two hours from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
