On Tuesday 25 August 2026, United Airlines which is based in Chicago, Illinois, announed ten new routes, including Luxembourg-Newark (New Jersey) direct daily, starting on 2 April 2027. 

The announcement was made by United Airlies' CEO Scott Kirby at an event at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The direct Luxembourg flight to the United States will link it with Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, one of the three international airport around New York, the other two being John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

According to Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's Minister of Defence, for Mobility and Public Works, and for Gender Equality and Diversity, "it marks a major milestone that will: boost business & investment between Europe and the US, strengthen cultural exchange and tourism, enhance Luxembourg’s attractiveness as a leading global hub for innovation, talent and international business and further strengthen Findel Airport’s role as a gateway connecting Luxembourg to the world".

Described as "the largest expansion in the airline's history", the airline's expansion plans include non-stop routes to/from ten new international destinations including Marseille and Toulouse in France, Terceria in the Azores (Portugal), Valencia and Ibiza in Spain, Olbia (Sardinai) and Catania (Sicily) in Italy, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Okinawa in Japan, and Luxembourg.

The routes will use the new the 'Born to Explore' A321XLR aircraft which offer 150 seats, including 20 Polaris (business class) seats, twelve Premium Plus (premium economy) seats, 36 Economy Plus (extra legroom) seats, and 82 economy seats.
