On Monday 11 November 2024, Anne Faber launched her new book "Baking with Anne" at Home from Home's new Teapot Parlour in Strassen.
This event followed Friday evening's launch at the Alinea bookstore on Rue Beaumont in Luxembourg-Ville.
Around 25 people attend the event in the cosy new setting which saw Anne Faber speak about her sixth book and how it all started. She recalled living in Britain "in 2010 when I did a food blog, when I was working as a journalist in London". Her first book was published in 2013.
She captivated the audience with her personality and infectious energy, delivering anecdote after anecdote, recounting how her career started and about developing her own recipes, including preparing her own spices. She also revealed that some of her great grandmother's recipes made it into "Baking with Anne".
She explained how early on she wanted to do a cookbook with one photo per recipe where the book took the reader on a journey, and confirmed that now most cookbooks do that. She looked at how Jamie Oliver did it and saw that he had a television show. She contacted RTL and pitched her idea... fast forward to 2024 and six books later. She recalled that she moved back to Luxembourg in 2015 and appreciates that here "in Luxembourg we are so multinational; I like showing Luxembourg's food culture, what is regional", etc.
Her first book, "A Taste of Luxembourg", contains ten traditional Luxembourg dishes, the classics with her interpretations. She mentioned she has been booked by a number of Luxembourgish embassies abroad to create dishes, which has taken her to Lisbon, London, etc., where she has prepared menus for meals for 80-250 people.
Turning her attention to her latest book, she explained that baking never goes out of fashion and she decided to approach it from a seasonal perspective. "I started working on it four years ago but COVID got in the way, then [her] fifth book too". She explained that her photographer started last autumn, taking photos of pumpkins, etc. She revealed that one third of the recipes are savouries, as baking not only covers sweet recipes.
The event concluded with a book signing, with Anne Faber talking with those present as she signed copies. Home from Home had put on tea and coffee, with crémant too, and Anne Faber had brought along some bottles of her Pinot Gris. She had also brought along some Focaccia with bagel seasoning, her Anything Goes cake (an idea she got from the Bertrange zero waste fair a few years ago) and butter biscuits with sweet spice, that she had baked earlier that day.
For those who are looking for copies of "Baking with Anne" (in English), Home from Home has some in stock; Anne Faber will also be at the Walferdange Book Fair this coming weekend.
The book is for those looking for easy, tried and tested recipes that anyone can make. In this collection, Anne Faber shares her cherished family recipes and personal baking creations throughout the seasons. The book holds 75 sweet and savoury recipes, including beloved classics like Anne's Bamkuch, her viral custard rhubarb cake and lots of yummy Christmas cookies. Seasoned bakers will be happy to discover lesser known traditional Luxembourgish treats, including Anne's great-grandmother's recipe for the perfect Schuedi.
