The annual Church Fair is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015; it is being held on Sunday 7 June from 12:15 in Useldange (L’Ancien Prieuré, 14 rue de Boevange).
Organised by the Anglican Church in Luxembourg, the main aim of the annual event has always been outreach, yet the Church Fair is also a major charity fundraiser in Luxembourg. It is established as a “do not miss” social occasion that brings together the English-speaking community with friends from the local Luxembourgish population and from across the borders with Belgium, France and Germany. Useldange has been home to the Fair for 27 years now and the Church Fair will again be officially opened by the Mayor of Useldange, Pollo Bodem.
At the heart of the Fair is a mix of food, drink, entertainment, bargain hunting and socialising that would not be out of place in an English village fair... or indeed a Luxembourgish Grillfest. This year the Fair will again be on the Sunday of the same weekend as the popular medieval festival in Useldange.
The entertainment programme this year will feature the Luxembourgish magician, Christian Lavey, whose Magic Show is guaranteed to delight adults and children of all ages, as well as the Jeanette Hutchines School of Dance and Musica Canora, a band performing medieval music.
Old favourites include the Barbecue, Bar & Champagne Tent, Tea Tent, and Pancake stalls, to cater for all tastes while at the Fair, as well as the International, Sustainable, Home Produce Stall. The Indian food stall will also be there, ready to serve mildly-spiced curries and other Indian-style delicacies. If it’s too hot the strategically-placed supply of crémant and other beverages should help!
The range of bargain hunting opportunities is just as wide, with stalls including Books, Bags & Baubles, CDs & DVDs and Toys & Games, and there will be a Tombola too.

For younger children, free tokens for the Bouncy Castle are included in the entry price (€4/person, €8/family). The family-friendly entertainment programme includes Children’s Races, a Dog Show (entries are taken on the day at the event) and the ever-popular (toy) Duck Race. There will also be the usual range of activities organised by Telstar Scouts and Luxembourg Guides.
