Restopolis, the school and university catering service of Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, is organising its “Fairtrade Week 2021” in its restaurants and cafeterias from 7 to 11 June 2021.

This week, organised regularly in cooperation with the Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg asbl since 2009, aims to familiarise guests with fair trade products and the working conditions of producers.

1.2% of the products processed and sold by Restopolis currently come from fair trade. The service wants to increase, where possible, the use of these products to 2% by 2025.

During the thematic week, the chefs of Restopolis use a maximum of Fairtrade products to prepare all the dishes. Two desserts are now permanently prepared with Fairtrade chocolate: chocolate cake and marbled cake.

The brochure “Iess gär, wiel fair” (enjoy eating, choose fair), published by Restopolis in 2017, is again available free of charge in Restopolis restaurants. It can be ordered via email: communication@restopolis.lu or downloaded online. The brochure summarises the actions taken to introduce Fairtrade products in school and university catering. It also contains an historical overview of fair trade and offers tips on how to support Fairtrade food producers.

As COVID-19 does not allow the usual information stands, Restopolis is organising several online awareness actions, namely:

- a quiz on fair trade products, the answers to which can be found in the brochure "Iess gär, wiel fair". The winners will take away a basket of Fairtrade products or a Fairtrade football. Participation is reserved for holders of an IAM card (secondary school guests);

- a chocolate cake contest according to the most successful Restopolis recipe;

- promotion of Restopolis Faitrade products on social networks.
