On Tuesday 23 August 2016, the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, Adrian Hasler, who is also the country’s Minister of Finance, hosted a meeting of German-speaking Ministers of Finance, which included Ministers of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble from Germany, Ueli Maurer from Switzerland, Pierre Gramegna from Luxembourg and Hans Jörg Schelling from Austria.; the ministers met in Vaduz to discuss current challenges and developments in the financial and tax matters in each country, in Europe and in the international community.

In addition to the general economic and political developments in Europe, the five German Minister of Finance discussed international developments concerning tax co-operation and taxation of companies, financial regulation and the topic of innovation.

"In a difficult economic environment, the five States assembled here can demonstrate above-average (economic) results. From their experience, success can be derived as growth and can be promoted throughout Europe. Innovative strength and a consistent investment policy are key to success. What tax issues are concerned for Luxembourg, the principle of the level playing field is of paramount importance. Therefore it is important, to lead discussions not only in view of the EU, but also actively involve our partners outside the EU. The annual meeting of the German-speaking Ministers of Finance has thus become an important Forum. I am pleased to note that there is a great convergence between our countries in the issues raised,” Pierre Gramegna commented.

The previous day, Prince Alois invited the Ministers of Finance for an exchange of views at Vaduz Castle. Michael Hilti, Director of Hilti AG, welcomed Minister Gramegna and the other Ministers of Finance at the company’s new Innovation Centre in Schaan in Liechtenstein.

Next year the meeting of the German-speaking Ministers of Finance will be held in Switzerland.
