Luxembourg's Ministry of Health has issued a warning concerning a specific flour product sold in stores in Luxembourg, samples of which have been found to contain fumonisin toxins.
The food safety authority has confirmed that, during routine checks, they have detected fumonisin contamination of corn flour.
The products have been distributed in Luxembourg at Nature Elements and Primavera shops, but a wider distribution is also possible.
Fumonisins are toxins formed by fungi of the genus Fusarium in maize under certain climatic conditions. Fumonisin are classified as "possibly carcinogenic" to humans.
The products in question have been withdrawn from sale in Nature Elements and Primavera shops in Luxembourg but some inventory has been sold.
