During this year’s Schueberfouer, from 19 August to 7 September, in addition to during the assembly and disassembly of all the stalls and rides, the Service d’hygiène of the Ville de Luxembourg will ensure the cleanliness of the Glacis car-park venue used by the region’s largest funfair.
Two teams totaling 20 people from their “Nettoyage” department (cleaning department) will ensure the cleanliness of the Glacis and the surrounding area, with shifts working from 05:00 until 11:00 daily, seven days/week, to clean the site and empty the bins before the arrival of visitors each day.
To promote respect for the environment during the entire period of the Schueberfouer, and in order to reduce waste, the Ville de Luxembourg has stated that they are encouraging drink stands and food operators, as well as restaurateurs, to make maximum use of the reusable crockery and cutlery and to separate waste materials for recycling – instead of serving on paper or plastic plates and plastic cutlery, and plastic goblets for drinks.
Refuse Collection
Last year, the Service d’hygiène and its team cleared up 33.92 tons of glasses, 14.28 tons of paper, 9.66 tons of biodegradable waste and 575 “Valorlux” 120-litre bags.
The Service d’hygiène also collected a total of 214.74 tons of residual mixed waste and 335 (25 litres) cans of vegetable oil as well as 725 polystyrene boxes.
To facilitate waste separation, the Ville de Luxembourg has located various colour-coded bins throughout the Glacis site: brown bins for biodegradable waste such as food scraps, green bins for glass, and blue bins for paper, as well as blue "Valorlux" bags for packaging and red bins for mixed residual waste.
The Ville de Luxembourg is encouraging visitors to the Schueberfouer to actively participate in the cleanliness of the site by using the relevant bins.
