Launched in March 2008 by the Ville de Luxembourg and JCDecaux, the vel'oh! public bicycle system had 25 stations with 250 bicycles originally; since then, the initiative has been optimised and new stations have gradually been set up across the capital city and neighbouring towns to meet a demand from citizens and users and to increase the density of the network around town.
In recent days, four new stations vel'oh! have been launched and are now in service: the "Beinchen" station in Pfaffenthal (15 spaces), the "Place Ste Cunegonde" station in Clausen (15 spaces), the "Leydenbach" station in Kirchberg (20 spaces) and the "Place Jeanne d'arc" station in Bonnevoie (20 tspaces).
The establishment of the "Beinchen" and "Place Ste Cunegonde" stations were facilitated by the realisation of the new vertical lift between Pfaffenthal and the Upper Town, enabling the concept of sustainable mobility to extend to the districts of the valley of the Alzette.
For the establishment of the Kirchberg stations (Grünewald district) and in Bonnevoie, the Ville de Luxembourg responded to a request from the citizens of the two quarters for better connections to their neighborhood to/from the existing network.
With the installation of these four new stations, the vel'oh! network in Luxembourg city now has 75 stations and 707 bicycles available seven days a week. The number of long-term bicycle system self-service subscribers has been growing, up to 7,300 at present.
