On Tuesday, Luxembourg's national statistics office, Statec, published a report on leisure travel for 2015
For four years, the volume of leisure tourism has remained stable at a high level: 83% of Luxembourg residents aged 15 and over have taken at least one leisure trip involving at least one night in 2015 (with an average of 4 nights); France and Germany remain the favorite destinations.
Overall, nearly one journey in three (31%) is considered a relaxing trip without special activities. One trip in four (24%) involves visiting family or friends, and one in five (19%) is devoted to culture. The most often cited reasons for not traveling are health problems (31%).
The figures vary according to age, with 93% of 20-29 year-olds travelling abroad, 92% of 30-39 year-olds, to 58% of those aged 70+.
looking at world-wide destinations, 92.8% remain in Europe, 1.8% go to Africa, 2.3% to Asia, 0.3% to Oceania and Australis, 1.3% to South America and 1.6% to North America.
Peak travel periods are August (14%) and July (11%), with October, November and January see the lowest number of people travel abroad.
The figures correspond to 389,000 residents travelling abroad at least once during 2015, 11,000 moare than in 2014.
