Linked with International Women's Day on 8 March 2016, a special event is being held on Saturday 5 March 2016 concerning the donation of gifts for refugee women, to make them feel happy and confident; the event is being held between 09:30 and 12:30 at 73 Rue de Luxembourg in Bereldange, the home of Jugera Ibrahimi who is involved with the Dress for Success initiative, is an ambassador for The Network and a volunteer with the Red Cross.
Women and girls comprise nearly half of the population in the refugee shelters. Although there are a number of organisations that work with them and assist them to the best extend possible, there are still things that could be done by the community.
Unlike many residents who love fashion, look forward to buying the next dress, to find the place celebrate the next birthday, going to the next party or simply being at home watching TV while cooking our favorite meal, this is impossible in the life of a refugee. Most of the time they stay inside, waiting for the next meal and for potential activities organised by the respective shelters.
A garage sale is being organised with all items costing between €2-20, with some brand items being just a little more expensive. The money generated as a result of the private sale will serve to buy gifts for the women of one refugee shelter for 8 March, International Women's Day, and the gifts will go there along with a list of names from all women that contributed through buying something.
However, buying something in the garage sale is not the only way for people to contribute to this initiative; thos einterested may also bring a small gift for the women, also including a personal note - such gifts should be between worth €10-20, e.g. a piece of jewellery, a spring scarf, a gourmandise basket (with chocolate, cheeses, jam), cosmetics, a gift card, etc.
