On Sunday 28 February 2016, the Luxembourg organisation 'Aide à l'Enfance de l'Inde' (AEI) will be holding its traditional Bazaar at Sandweiler cultural centre, in support of reconstruction and rehabilitation projects taking place in Nepal.

The money raised will help AEI to financially support, from the beginning of 2016 until the end of 2017, two Nepalese organisations engaged in rebuilding Nepal following the major earthquakes which devastated the South Asian country in spring of last year.

One of the partners, Association for Rural Development (ARD), plans to rebuild eleven schools in the village of Sarasyunkharka in Kavepalanchok district which have been partially or fully damaged, and equip them with teaching and learning materials.

In addition, a medical clinic and eight water tanks have been reconstructed and 18 bins for public waste installed in a bid to ensure the health and hygiene of the village. 90 children aged 0-1 receive nutritious food, whilst 63 single mothers are able to benefit from financial assistance enabling them to resume agricultural activities, such as acquiring cattle for breeding, seeds for sowing or plastic greenhouses for cultivating vegetables, which were also hard hit by the earthquakes.

AEI has also partnered with the Women's Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) which has rebuilt the destroyed homes of 54 families in Bisdeutar and is now looking to reconstruct a medical clinic and community centre. In the long-term, the WOREC will aim to organise health camps to monitor and improve the health of residents, particularly children, who are forced to live in uninsulated temporary shelters made out of corrugated iron and are therefore susceptible to health problems in wintry conditions.

Around 8,000 people are expected to benefit from these planned measures, which will be funded through donations made to the AEI.

The programme of the Bazaar will feature South Indian, traditional Nepalese and Bollywood dances performed by associations from around Luxembourg; henna workshops and activities for children. National and international dishes and delicacies will also be made available, along with stalls selling jewellery, clothing and books from India and Nepal; Indian spices, rice, tea and cookbooks; a flea market; and a bar and bakery.

The Bazaar will be open from 10:30 at the Sandweiler cultural centre, 18 Rue Principale, L-5240 Sandweiler, Luxembourg. If you would like to reserve a midday meal, which costs 18€ for adults and 9€ for children, contact +352 26 09 41 54 or bazar@aei.lu before 23 February 2016.

A donation of 20€ will provide food for a child aged 0-1; offering 100€ will ensure the purchase of a plastic greenhouse for a single-parent family; and a sum of 1,000€ will allow for the purchase of construction material for the reparation of a damaged water reservois. Individuals who would like to financially contribute in this way are invited to make a donation to one of the two accounts:

- CCP: LU03 1111 0367 5084 0000
- BIL: LU47 0024 1016 2230 0000
