LuxExpo has confirmed that more than 20,000 visitors attended the Vakanz tourism fair that was held over three days over the week-end involving 200 ehibitors in the three halls (17,000 m2) of the exhibition centre.
This represents a significant drop in attendance compared to more than 30,000 who attended the Vakanz 2015 event in January 2015. Despite high numbers attending on Friday, the organisers believe that the snow and ice on Saturday were the main reason for a drop in attendance this year, according to Jean-Michel Collignon, Director at LuxExpo.
As well as special prices on offer throughout, the event also saw themed bars, reverse auctions and special attractions.
On Friday, Francine Closener, Secretary of State of the Economy, said at the opening that tourism in Luxembourg rose last year by 1.4%.
A cheque for €10,486 was presented to La Fondation Maison de la Porte Ouverte, at the event.
